Cambodia

In November I went to Cambodia for an adventurous holiday, stopping in Singapore on route for a bit of sightseeing. The holiday exceeded all my expectations: It was great to meet up with friends that I made in Japan. The temples at Angkor were spectacular and well worth visiting. The Cambodian countryside was beautiful. The background of the people that I meet there was particularly moving.

While abroad I conquered several challenges - cycling 62km and climbing and descending 600+ steps in 35C heat in one day (still not sure how I survived!), crossing roads (very scary), getting in tuk-tuks, spinning (unintentionally) in a long boat in some rapids in the Mekong river, coping with the fear of going too fast on a bike, going through sand on a bike and eating a tarantula leg. The holiday involved quite a lot of exercise. As well as cycling, I kayaked through a flooded forest in the Mekong river too. Happily Cambodian food avoids milk products and can easily be adapted to avoid onions, so I was able to embrace eating, which was absolutely necessary to keep me going.

I thoroughly enjoyed my holiday and recommend a visit to Cambodia to everyone!
