Sunshine City and Okonomiyaki

Sunshine City + Okonomiyaki

I went with Miho to the aquarium and observatory at Sunshine City at Ikebukuro. Sunshine City is a large skyscraper complex of shops, restaurants and entertainment venues. It was so big and there were so many people that it took me ages to find the aquarium. It would of course have helped if I had looked up the kanji for aquarium beforehand! I was surprised that the aquarium was at the top of one of the skycrapers. I expected it to be on the ground floor or in the basement, however there is apparently a lift especially for the fish! It also had a mini zoo - I have never seen a horse on the top of a skyscraper before!

The observatory was on the 60th floor and had spectacular views across Tokyo. The weather was so good, we could see Mount Fuji. I loved the lift to the 60th floor. The main light turned off and instead was lit by lots of mini lights, scattered like stars across the walls, and glow in the dark fish drawings.

We then went to Ginza and met Joyce, also a friend from badminton, to go and eat Okonomiyaki. This is a bit like an omelette, but more filling. It was cooked at the table for us by one of the waiters. We also ate Monja, which looks less appertising, but tastes just as good. We finished off the meal with Japanese sweets, which tasted similar to rice pudding.
