Shakespeare and fish!

Tateyama

This weekend I went with my badminton friend Miho to Tateyama. Tateyama is on the south-eastern tip of Japan, a couple of hours away from Tokyo.
We went to Tateyama castle, an ashu (foot spa) and the beach. We also went to the Shakespeare Country park. It was very surreal - England in Japan, but actually quite accurate. In the evening, we made the most of the lack of light pollution to look at the stars.
On the Sunday we got up really early to go on a fishing boat with Miho's friend Sakanakun. Sakanakun is a celebrity in Japanese, he knows a lot about fish, being a researcher and lecturer on them, and is on television a lot wearing a fish hat and getting very excited about fish. I felt very out of place on the boat - I didn't look the part at all, despite the wellies and waterproof trousers. However it was a fascinating experience! I have never seen so many fish, not looked at fish so closely before. I was particularly shocked to see that one fish had a set of teeth, almost identical to a human's, although obviously a lot smaller.
Afterwards we had fresh fish for breakfast. Really yummy! We then went to an underwater observatory, where we could see the fish in the sea. Despite Miho's protests, Sakanakun kept putting his hat on, so he was recognised by everyone and we had to stop a lot to wait for him to have photos with fans.
We finished our trip with more fish for lunch and a visit to the museum where Sakanakun works as a researcher.
It was a very enjoyable weekend! Thank you Miho and Sakanakun!
