| Kimono + Japanese meal |
This weekend I went to Chuo ward's international exchange party with my colleagues Gai and Oi. It was organised by the same people that organise my volunteer Japanese lessons. On arriving I was recognised and we were ushered into the room where you could try on a kimono. Unfortunately this meant that we couldn't try most of the other Japanese crafts/traditions that were displayed at the event. After the kimonos, we had a go at traditional Japanese dancing. Lots of fun - even though I was no good at it.
In the evening I went to Kichijoji in west Tokyo to meet Kazumi san, my 'buddy' from climbing Mount Fuji. We went for a Japanese meal, where I tried lots of foods I hadn't had before: rice in tea, tea flavoured creme brulee and fried sesame tofu in dashi sauce. Surprisingly yummy.
