| Nasu |
Last weekend I went with my badminton friends Miho and Jason on a weekend trip to Nasu, which is in Nikko national park. It is a beautiful area of mountains, lakes and waterfalls that was even more stunning thanks to the autumn colours. Unfortunately it tipped it down the whole weekend, so we could not do as much walking as we wanted to. Instead we ate too much, cheese cake in particular.
One of the things that the Nasu area is famous for is its natural hot springs. As a result, this was my first trip to a typical Japanese onsen (hot spring). It was an interesting experience - there was an indoor and outside section. Fortunately the sections for men and women were separate as you go in with no clothes on. It was quite surreal being outside when it was so cold. It wasn't cold when you where in the water it, if anything the the water was too hot. If I stayed in too long it made me feel dizzy.
I really enjoyed the weekend. There was so much to see and it was a really beautiful area. In some ways it reminded me of the forested areas in the south of Belgium. Thank you Miho for organising the whole weekend and thanks to both Miho and Jason for making the weekend so much fun, despite the rain.
